From Karla's family cookbook (2014). Cipole al Forno — oven-baked onions — is a classic Italian side dish where the natural sweetness of the onions is beautifully complemented by a savory Parmesan and sage crust.

Method
Peel the onions and halve them crosswise.
Mix the oil, breadcrumbs, cheese and cream into a smooth paste. Season with sage, pepper and salt.
Spread the cut surfaces of the onions with the paste and place in a greased ovenproof dish.
Bake in the oven at 200°–225° for about 45 minutes.
